If one word could sum up the LSU women’s basketball team’s record-setting 80-28 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday, it’s defense.
LSU’s defense stifled the Golden Lions, holding them to eight points in the first half — the lowest score ever allowed by the Lady Tigers in a single half.
LSU forced 35 turnovers and totaled 20 steals for the game, with sophomore Jeanne Kenney leading the defense with five takeaways.
Turnovers plagued LSU’s offense as well, as it turned the ball over 20 times. That didn’t stop the Lady Tigers from scoring, however, as every player on the roster managed at least three points.
The Lady Tigers still maintained a 47.1 field-goal percentage, while holding Pine Bluff to only 21.3 percent. Senior LaSondra Barrett set the bar with an impressive 5-for-6 from the field for 14 points.
Barrett said LSU’s defensive play marked a step in the right direction for the team.
