In their final home game of the season, the LSU Soccer team lost to South Carolina on Thursday in the LSU Soccer Stadium with a score of 4-1.
The Lady Tigers (11-6-1, 6-3 SEC) put the first score on the board, but then gave too much room for the Gamecocks (13-5, 7-2 SEC) to get in and score four goals to end the game.
LSU senior midfielder Taryne Boudreau was the only Tiger to score during the match, putting the ball in the net from 20 yards out on a free kick during the 18th minute. The free kick occurred after South Carolina’s Ellen Fahey received a yellow card for roughing with senior midfielder Allysha Chapman.
After Boudreau’s score, only South Carolina connected the ball with the back of the net.
South Carolina scored once in the first half, then came to score three goals in the second half to secure the game. Their first three goals we scored on two corner kicks and a free kick, with the last one coming during regular play.
“Well a loss is a loss. We’re not really worried about the score in the end. But we just got to regroup and take our chances against Florida on Sunday, and if we wanna get back in the title race that’s a game we’ve got to win,” LSU Head Coach Brian Lee said.
Thursday’s match was also Senior night where Boudreau and Chapman, along with fellow seniors Mo Isom, Natalie Martineau and Kellie Murphy, were recognized and presented flowers as they stood with their families on the field.
Boudreau said that it was a blessing to have her family down from Canada on such a special night, and she was proud to score the goal in front of them.
The Lady Tigers will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to play against the Florida Gators on Sunday in a nationally televised match shown on ESPNU.
