The Lady Tigers continued their four-game winning streak, beating the McNeese Cowgirls 1-0 Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex.
After an intense first half, including many close plays on the net, the score was tied, 0-0.
In the fiftieth minute, Junior Carlie Banks found Senior Kellie Murphy who got the ball past the Cowgirls’ goalkeeper and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Murphy’s lone goal powered the Tigers past the Cowgirls. “I saw the opportunity to overlap and I knew the inside game wasn’t an option,” Murphy said of her goal.
For most of the second half the Lady Tigers kept the ball on the opposite side of the field trying to put another goal in.
When the Cowgirls did get the ball to LSU’s side of the field and took a shot, Senior Mo Isom shut them down. One particular catch Isom made late in the second half could have saved her team from going into overtime.
After the game, Murphy praised Isom for her prowess in the net, “I’m confident in Mo. I thought she had a really good save. I’m very glad that we have her.”
The win pushed LSU’s record to 4-3-1. The Tigers will host Oklahoma Monday Night at 7:00 for their “Pink Match” to raise breast cancer awareness.
LSU has now won eight out of the last nine matches against McNeese State.
