On Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, the Golden Band from Tigerland commemorated one of the greatest American tragedies by playing this rendition of “Amazing Grace.” It’s the same arrangement played by the band on Oct. 6, 2001 — the first home game after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
Tiger Band specifically honored Navy Lt. Michael “Scott” Lamana who died when a plane crashed into the Pentagon that fateful morning. Members of Lt. Lamana stood with the band on the field during this song.
This is a clip of that moment in Tiger Stadium.
