After a shaky start in the first half of play, the LSU soccer team brought in their second SEC win of the season against the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday in the LSU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers (7-3-1, 2-0-0 SEC) extended their unbeaten streak to seven games while Ole Miss (4-5-1, 0-2-0 SEC) added another game to their losing streak, bringing it to three after the Tigers won 3-2 against the Rebels in front of 775 fans.
The first half started off with a few attempts at goals from both teams, but nothing happened until the final seconds of the first half when Ole Miss’ Dylan Jordan scored on a loose ball off a corner kick.
Things began to change in the second half when LSU Midfielder Taryne Boudreaux scored her sixth goal of the season in the 48th minute. “It left my foot, and I knew it was going in,” Boudreaux said.
Midfielder Allysha Chapman gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute of the game after running down the left side and finding the back of the net for her first goal of her career.
Ole Miss’ Jenna Strother tied 2-2 in the 79th minute; but the Tigers answered shortly after with another shot by Boudreaux in the 85th minute, bringing her to seven goals this season.
Despite a quiet start in the first half, the Tigers worked together to secure the win. “We feel good where we’re at, and there’s a long way to go,” LSU Head Coach Brian Lee said regarding the schedule ahead.
The Tigers continue their season with a game against the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in the LSU Soccer Stadium.
