Students in search of original artwork can peruse the Baton Rouge Arts Market downtown this Saturday on the corner of Fifth and Main streets.
The monthly market, open from 8 a.m. to noon, offers a variety of handmade artworks including pottery, woodworking, jewelry, photography, paintings, sculptures and other forms.
Sandy Parfait, curator of the Community Gallery for the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, said artists travel from outside the city to sell their work at the market. She said about 200 artists are involved with the market, with 70 participating each month.
“The prices are reasonable, and it’s a great place to find clothing, jewelry and unique gifts,” Parfait said.
Parfait said the Baton Rouge community has provided artists with a “great audience” and has made artists’ travels worth their while.
