LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne has been named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Tigers win over Mississippi State on Thursday night.
Claiborne, a junior from Shreveport, La., had two interceptions and broke up a pass as the Tigers limited the Bulldogs to just 193 yards of total offense in the 19-6 victory. Mississippi State entered the game leading the Southeastern Conference in total offense (588.0) and rushing offense (321.0).
Claiborne, who now has seven career interceptions, is currently is tied for third in the SEC interceptions (2) and he’s tied for eighth in passes defended (3).
Florida’s Chris Rainey earned national offensive player of the week honors after racking up 233 all-purpose yards in the Gators 33-23 win over Tennessee.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation is in its eighth season of honoring a player of the week on both offense and defense during the regular season.
