Down on Highland Road near the south gates of campus is Baton Rouge’s newest burger joint, Fat Cow.
“Whether you like the name or not, it sticks in people’s heads,” manager Richard Cassagne said.
Fat Cow is defined as a “fast, casual counter-serve restaurant,” with the ambiance of an “industrial barn,” Cassagne said.
The restaurant, specializing in gourmet hamburgers and salads, is adorned with reclaimed wood and stainless steel accents.
The modern yet rustic motif features charcoal and contrasting orange walls, unique art pieces and a bar counter made from a solid slab of concrete.
There are windowed garage doors leading to an outdoor patio with additional seating and televisions, and there will also be a fireplace on the patio for colder weather.
Cassagne said he hopes Fat Cow will become a destination for watching football games.
In lieu of a traditional cash register system, cashiers ring up orders on iPads. The restaurant employs iPad-specific software through a web portal that allows him to track sales, inventory and publish menu items, Cassagne said.
“We want to keep up with the times,” Cassagne said.
