It took 13 conference games for the LSU men’s basketball team to earn its first Southeastern Conference win last season.
This season it only took one SEC game.
LSU (9-7) attacked Auburn early Saturday evening, holding a 32-6 lead at halftime, and held on to claim a 62-55 win.
Auburn (7-8) attempted to come back in the second half, outscoring LSU 49-30, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the large first-half deficit.
LSU limited Auburn to 2-for-24 shooting from the field in the first half.
Junior forward Garrett Green came off the bench to lead LSU with a career-high18 points.
Green has been on fire as of late, scoring in double figures in four of LSU’s last six games.
Freshman forward Matt Derenbecker contributed 15 points in his first career start.
LSU hosts Arkansas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the PMAC.
