(AP) — Lawmakers have agreed to shift the University of New Orleans into a different college system.
Under the proposal that received final passage Tuesday, UNO will move from the LSU System and into the University of Louisiana System. The measure heads to Gov. Bobby Jindal, who supports the change.
The UNO chancellor will have to submit a letter to the president of the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools by Aug. 1 notifying the association of the planned governance change.
The UNO shift replaces a previous bid by the Jindal administration to merge UNO with Southern University at New Orleans.
