Several LSU sports added top recruits to their rosters this fall.
The men’s basketball team acquired Malik Morgan, the No. 75 ranked overall player on Rivals Top 100 list.
Morgan, a native of River Ridge, La., averaged a staggering 28.9 points per game in his senior year. While he played guard, he also averaged nine rebounds a game.
Morgan said despite the efforts of a multitude of other schools, LSU remained at the top of his list from the beginning.
“I was leaning toward LSU from the beginning, because my mom played volleyball there,” he said. “I wanted to come through and make my own story there.”
Morgan’s mother, Detra Brown, was a four-year letter winner and a two-time All-Southeastern Conference member in volleyball.
Morgan wasn’t the only major basketball recruit to come through. The Lady Tiger basketball team added guard Danielle Ballard, a Memphis native..
ESPN HoopGurlz ranked Ballard, a 5-foot-9-inch guard, the No. 24 overall player in America.
As a junior, Ballard averaged 13.7 points a game with 4.7 steals. The Lady Tigers also signed Kuaneshia Baker and Derreyal Youngblood, two other HoopGurlz top 100 recruits from Louisiana.
Both LSU golf teams were among the Tiger squads who also signed top recruits.
The men’s golf team added three elite golfers from across the country.
Phoenix native Zach Wright, the No. 1 recruit in Arizona, was named the No. 8 recruit by the Polo Junior Golf Rankings and No. 17 in the Golfweek Junior Rankings.
Wright placed fourth in the 36th Junior PGA Championship in Fort Wayne, Ind., this summer. He posted an impressive four-round 3-under-par 285 in the tournament.
The other two men’s golf recruits were the National Junior Golf Scoreboard No. 59 nationally ranked John Jonas of Jacksonville, Fla., and No. 1 ranked Louisiana recruit Chuck Spears of Pineville.
Mandeville native Elise Bradley sent in her signed letter of intent to women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen this semester.
Bradley won both the 2009 and 2010 Louisiana high school state championships, along with the 2010 and 2011 Louisiana Golf Association state junior crowns.
“I think she’s a great addition to the team,” Bahnsen said. “She’s very competitive, and she’ll be able to help us in continuing what we’ve
