After a tough 10-3 loss to Alabama on Saturday night which ended their 18 game winning streak, the Tigers dominated game three of the series on Sunday scoring 8 runs and beating the Crimson Tide 8-1 while allowing only 4 hits.
The Tiger’s game on Sunday was quite the opposite of their loss on the rainy Saturday evening. Carley Hoover threw her first pitch at 2 PM with the sun shining in Tiger Park.
She finished the top of the 1st inning strong with 2 strikeouts and no runs against.
LSU finished off the 1st inning with a hit down the third baseline by junior Bailey Landry bringing in two runners and giving the Tigers a 2- 0 lead.
The girls exhibited strong defense in the top of the 2nd inning only allowing 1 runner on base.
In the bottom of the 2rd, the Tigers scored again as senior Bianka Bell hit an RBI bringing the Tigers to a 3 -1 lead.
Alabama snuck in a run in the top of the 3rd with a single to centerfield by Marisa Runyon leading to an RBI, but the Tigers maintained their defensive edge and got 3 outs after 5 batters.
LSU continued to hold off Alabama in the 4th inning going 2 up 2 down thanks to excellent fielding by Constance Quinn and Bailey Landry. Hoover allowed 2 hits but finished up the top of the inning with a strike out.
The Tigers really opened things up in the 6th inning offensively scoring 5 runs.
Constance Quinn started the scoring rally in the 6th with an RBI single.
The next run was scored as Elyse Thornhill stole home plate.
Bianka Bell then hit the first homerun of the game, which was her 3rd of the season. Sahvanna Laquish followed up with a nice hit to left field leaving her safe on first base.
Kellsi Kloss then continued the scoring streak with the second homerun of the inning bringing Laquish in and bringing the score to 8 –1. That was Kloss’ 5th homerun of the season.
The LSU bats came alive with a stellar 6th inning and Alabama was unable to get back into the ball game.
The Crimson Tide just could not get anything going offensively with Carley Hoover’s complete game, 8-strikeout performance and the backing of the a strong LSU defense.
Hoover recorded her 10th win of the season.
The Tigers’ series victory against Alabama brings their record to 23 – 3 overall and 2 – 1 in SEC play.
The Tigers’ next game is on Tuesday, Mar. 15 against Louisiana Tech in Ruston. Their next SEC series is against Texas A&M this upcoming weekend in College Station.
