Roof Technologies, Inc., a sub-contractor for The Lemoine Company — the contractor handling the renovation and expansion of Patrick F. Taylor Hall — has been cited for four violations by the State Fire Marshal in relation to the Jan. 19 fire on the roof of Patrick F. Taylor Hall, according to a news release from the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.
Investigators believe the fire was caused by hot tar left on a mop which had been improperly stored by employees of Roof Technologies, Inc., according to the release. Officials from The Lemoine Company joined investigators on the scene and agreed with their findings.
“We appreciated Lemoine’s quick response and cooperation in this matter,” said LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard in a statement.
Following the investigation, the State Fire Marshal cited the company for “placing an asphalt and tar kettle on the roof,” leaving a tar-soaked mop near “combustibles,” not conducting a “required two-hour fire watch” and not keeping portable fire extinguishers on hand.
