Although all TOPS payments for this semester have been resumed, with the state reimbursing 80% of the losses from the time funding was suspended and the university absorbing the rest, we can all agree that the situation with the state budget is just that: a situation.
This isn’t the first time higher education in Louisiana has taken a hit, and it most likely won’t be the last. Just last year, in the spring of 2015, a march on the capitol was staged to protest similar budget cuts proposed by Governor Jindal. This weekend, on Friday, February 16, the LSU Black Leadership Council is inviting all students to march again, and to rally in protest.
They will be meeting at 11:30 AM on Friday at the State Capitol Park, and the march will begin at noon.
