Within recent years, hair and skin care has shifted to a more natural approach.
While “typical” beauty products like face scrubs and hair gels still have a foothold on the market, natural products have begun to shy away from the alternative “hippy” label and become recognized as a realistic alternative to artificial products.
Here are the six key products that will help you shed your corporate-made products for something more organic.
Jojoba Oil:
This oil is odorless and penetrates skin tissue easily. It’s used for a variety of purposes from destroying fungi to deep tissue massages. Another advantage is the oil can enrich your hair and scalp, as well as prevent chapped lips. Lucy’s Health Foods owner Lucy Ramos, said with jojoba oil used as a carrier oil, it works with many essential oils. She said many people use it for hair, as it helps to keep strands moist and shiny. If used with a flat iron you can apply jojoba oil to help protect your hair from drying.
Argan Oil:
Argan Oil is wonderful when used in conjunction with shampoo and conditioner, giving off a strong fragrant scent. Ramos said argan oil gives nutrients to the hair and is certified organic. She said the oil’s primary use is to give more lubrication and moisturization. Our Daily Bread owner Al Himel said argan oil penetrates the skin easily and comes in different grades for people with lighter or darker skin.
Coconut Oil:
While coconuts may seem like a strange beauty ingredient , coconut oil smells excellent and moisturizes the body. It’s easy to cook with, while also maintaining your hair, scalp and lips. Ramos said the oil has been making its mark in the beauty product world and has been found to help every part of the body. She said research shows coconut oil can prevent alzheimer’s disease when used in conjunction with turmeric, and in addition, your body will metabolize coconut oil different from regular fats, because your energy will come from a cleaner source of energy.
Lemon Oil:
While lemons works for creating a refreshing beverage or a seasoning on fish, concentrated lemon oil can yield clear skin and aid with any acne problem. Himel said the oil can be used as a mild astringent and carrier oil. Ramos recommended lemon oil for congestion and colds, as well as cooking and light seasoning.
Avocado/Avocado Oil:
Avocado Oil works similarly to an avocado face mask, to create clear skin. Ramos said avocado oil excels when used for skin hydration, elasticity, and it’s a carrier oil, which can be in conjunction with a essential oil, such as lavender for massages or health benefits.
