Fall breakers may want to take a road trip to Lafayette as costumes, cosplay and comics make their way into Cajun territory this weekend.
The upcoming Louisiana Comic Con: Lafayette is a two-day event held at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette this weekend. The convention will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Comic Con began in San Diego, California, in 1970. The convention celebrates comic books, films, anime and science fiction/fantasy literature.
In addition to various panels and programs, movie screenings and contests are held.
Guests at Lafayette’s Comic Con will include Ernie Hudson, famous for his role in the original version of “Ghostbusters;” Deep Roy, known for his roles in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the 2009 and 2016 “Star Trek” movies; and Steve Cardenas, better recognized as the red Power Ranger in various Power Ranger movies.
These guests, and several others will host different question-and-answer panels on Saturday, including “Size Matters Not: Q&A with Deep Roy” from 1 to 2 p.m., “It’s Morphin Time: Q&A with Steve Cardenas” from 2 to 3 p.m. and “That’s a Big Twinkie: Q&A with Ernie Hudson” from 3 to 4 p.m.
Comic Con’s signature costume contest will take place Saturday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
A plethora of vendors will be in attendance, including the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Anime Club and the Louisiana Ghostbusters.
Tickets for the Louisiana Comic Con: Lafayette are $22 per day or $33 for the entire weekend. Tickets for children from 2 to 8 years old are $5 per day, and children younger than 2 get in free.
