Most of Baton Rouge is talking about the rescheduling of LSU- Florida, but the Tigers themselves have their mind on Southern Miss.
Coach Ed Orgeron decided to turn the unexpected by week into a positive thing.
“Our players got some much needed time with their families. I know they’re going to come back rested today,” Orgeron said.
The Tiger’s are staying focused and know how important it is to win this non conference match up against the Golden Eagles.
“You can only control what you can control and that’s going out on Saturday and being dominate,” Lewis Neal said.
Even though LSU already has two games in the loss column, Southern Miss knows not to take them lightly.
“We know we’re playing a football team that had a close loss to Wisconsin, and a controversial end to Auburn,” Southern Miss Head Coach Jay Hopson said. “If they win those they’re probably ranked number two in the country.”
One reason those games were so close were due to the dominate play of the LSU defense. They have only surrendered five touchdowns in five games.
“We have some speed on our defense. I know after we gave up that touchdown last week there were a lot of unhappy players, a lot of unhappy coaches on the sideline. Those guys strive to be great not good,” Orgeron said.
Their dominate play may be able to continue with Southern Miss’ quarterback Nick Mullens possibly being sidelined with a thumb injury.
Leonard Fournette will also probably be sidelined with that ongoing ankle injury and Ricky Jefferson will be out for a good amount of time with a broken leg.
