The LSU volleyball team can’t seem to find it’s spark.
After 3 consecutive match losses, LSU (5-8 Overall, 0-2 SEC) rallied against Arkansas at 1 p.m. today at the PMAC.
On Friday, the Tigers lost to Auburn, 2-3 and were looking to claim their first SEC match against Arkansas.
However, the Tigers’ efforts fell short and they lost to the Razorbacks, 3-0.
“I’m disappointed in our preparation,” said LSU coach Fran Flory in a press release on Sunday. “I thought we fought really well at Auburn, but we didn’t show that same fight today.”
LSU gained its first point in the first set against Arkansas, but the Razorbacks refused to let LSU get the next. The match was played the same way throughout – with the score always close.
Tied at 5-5, Arkansas won another point and from there on out kept a lead in majority of the set. There were several lead changes and the score tied 12 times but in the end, Arkansas took the first set, 25-21.
The Razorbacks dominated the start of the second match with a 6-0 lead, when LSU finally gained a point on a service error by Arkansas.
The Tigers trailed Arkansas for the entirety of the second set and eventually loss, 25-17.
LSU had 11 kills for the second set but also tallied six errors and three service errors.
In the third set, the Tigers fought to stay afloat. With Arkansas at 15 and LSU at 13, the Razorbacks had a 9-0 run to lock in the win. The final score was 25-14.
Outside hitter junior Gina Tillis spearheaded the Tigers in kills and errors with 11 kills and five errors. Behind Tillis is middle blocker junior Khourtni Fears with seven kills and 1 error.
“Our upperclassmen have to step up and fight for this season,” Flory said.
LSU will play Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the PMAC.
