LSU entered South Carolina looking to extend its two-game winning streak and looking to snap their six game losing streak against the Gamecocks.
The eighth-ranked Gamecocks (9-0-1, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) defended their home field against LSU (6-5-0, 1-2 SEC) and their eight-game winning streak this season with a 3-1 win versus the Tigers.
The Gamecocks struck first in the 10th minute when junior forward Savannah McCaskill scored from 20 yards out for her SEC-leading 10th goal.
This lead wouldn’t last for long, though.
In the 26th minute, senior forward Summer Clarke netted a goal from eight yards out ending her 398-minute scoreless streak. The goal marked the first goal South Carolina had given up in four games.
Clarke’s goal was the first goal South Carolina allowed in the first half.
The half would end tied, 1-1. Neither LSU nor South Carolina would score until the 74th minute.
In the 74th minute the Gamecocks struck again, pushing the lead to 2-1, via senior forward Sophie Groff.
The lead would not take long to continue to grow, when, 72 seconds later, the Gamecocks scored again — this time on a penalty kick drawn by McCaskill.
The Tigers will continue their two game weekend trip when they will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to face Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
