GREEN BAY, Wisc. — Leonard Fournette’s ankle went limp. Again.

Late in the fourth quarter as LSU trailed Wisconsin by two points, Fournette busted through Wisconsin’s defensive line, leaving him the same 1-on-1 running back versus defensive back matchup that has planted opponents on their backs before.

Fournette approached, lowered his shoulder and flipped over a Badgers defensive back before hobbling off of Lambeau Field — with the help of his teammate, tight end Foster Moreau — during LSU’s 14-16 loss on Saturday.

The next play, Brandon Harris tossed an interception to Wisconsin’s D’Cota Dixon with less than one minute remaining in the fourth quarter.

Had he not, LSU coach Les Miles said he was hopeful Fournette would have been able to return into the game.

“I don’t think it’s an injury that’s going to keep him from playing,” Miles said.

Before the play, Fournette, at “full speed,” conquered another LSU record.

And it only took 12 plays.

On a second down carry in the second quarter, Fournette broke a halfback dive play for nine yards, tagging his name beside another LSU program record in the 3,000-plus club. 

“Thought he played hard,” Miles said.

Fournette had 23 carries for 138 yards in LSU’s win against Wisconsin, becoming the fastest Tiger to reach the 3,000-yard mark, which he did in 26 games.

Fournette’s game pushes his career total to 3,125 yards.
