On the night of September 8, 2016, Video Age and The Mild High Club took me to another dimension. Video Age, a local New Orleans band, whose members have been a part of many other local bands such as Natural Blonde and Native America, started off the music for the evening. Sporting a purple sparkle cape, the front man of Video Age belted out an arsenal of original songs that strongly reference sounds from 80s pop and new wave bands such The Cure and New Order. After their set ended, the atmosphere of the venue became a little more intimate as people shuffled closer to the stage in anticipation for the Mild High Club. With 28 strings split between two guitars and a bass, a keyboard, drums, and laid back vocals, the Mild High Club took the audience on jazzy psychedelic journey for the next hour and some change. When the Club members weren’t intently playing their instruments, the mellow 5 piece collectively made jokes and laughed at themselves when they made mistakes. Many of the songs saw extended jams, including the song The Chat, which the crowd literally insisted the band jam on when they originally stopped short of the studio version’s instrumental outro. At the end of the night, the one message that came to mind was this; if you get a chance, GO SEE THE MILD HIGH CLUB. Mild High Club Setlist:
