The countdown is officially over and LSU Football is back. The Tigers will face Wisconsin this Saturday at Lambeau Field. Head Coach Les Miles says the team has improved since camp and is ready to go.
Head Coach Les Miles says, “Everybody realizes that the preparation has to be pretty good, and you have to be ready to play and play at a high level in the first game, I think that’s how they’ve practiced, I think that’s how they’ve prepared.”
LSU announced all of the position coaches will be on the sidelines this season, including new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.
“He’s looking forward to the change,” junior safety Jamal Adams said. “I can relate to them on the field and I can ask them anything that I need, and maybe they see something on the field that I didn’t.”
Not only are there new coaches for this season, there are also 17 returning starters for LSU. Junior wide receiver Malachi Dupre said there are high expectations for this team.
“This year we know we have a team that can do some great things, we just have to put it all together and come out Saturday and execute the game plan and use that as fuel throughout the rest of the season,” Dupre said.
Along with all the talent, the team has an even bigger motivation for this season. Junior defensive tackle Davon Godchaux said the team has to do it for the city of Baton Rouge.
“We know we have the city on our back, you know with the flood and all the tragedy that went on, we know Saturday night everybody’s going to be locked in watching LSU Football, purple and gold, watching us play, watching our defense with swagger,” Godchaux said.
As LSU departs for Wisconsin to open football season, they will certainly have a strong support system back home and even at the stadium with them.
“Well the fact that 30,000 LSU fans can make their way to Lambeau Field, that is an amazing number,” Miles said.
Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Wisconsin.
