After landing at No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper preseason poll last month, the LSU baseball team finds itself in the same position in another preseason poll.
Despite only one returning position starter, D1Baseball.com placed the Tigers at No. 7 in its preseason poll released Tuesday morning. LSU finished 2015 ranked No. 5 by D1Baseball.com following a 54-12 overall record, which included a 1-2 outing in the College World Series.
The Tigers join six other Southeastern Conference schools in D1Baseball.com’s rankings, including No. 1 Florida, No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 4 Texas A&M.
LSU travels to College Station, Texas, to take on the Aggies for a three-game series in late March. But the Tigers will host a three-game series against the Commodores in early April and the Gators to close out the regular season.
The Tigers also host No. 15 Mississippi State for a series in late April and No. 25 Arkansas in early May.
No. 18 Louisiana-Lafayette, which was ranked No. 6 in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason rankings, will face LSU on March 22 in Metarie, Louisiana for the Wally Pontiff Classic at Zephyr Field.
