With Christmas quickly approaching, most people are preparing to head home for the holidays. However, if you plan on staying in Baton Rouge over the Christmas break, here is a list of events you can attend to stay in the holiday spirit.
ZooLights
BREC Baton Rouge Zoo will host its annual Christmas lights display until Dec. 30.There will be a display of over 50 illuminated animals and traditional holiday figures. The lights can be seen throughout the mile long zoo trail. Tickets range from $3 to $5.
The Baton Rouge Symphony League will host its second annualJingle Bell Tea at De La Ronde Hall on Dec. 4. The delectables offered will include sandwiches, scones, sweets and cotton candy. The event will be catered by Ruffino’s Catering. Tickets are $30 for children and $45 for adults.
Second Annual Holiday Shop Hop
More than 30 local retailers will set up 15 pop-up shops across downtown Baton Rouge on Dec. 8. The event starts at 11 a.m. and will last until 8 p.m.
Downtown Christmas Parade
The annual Christmas parade will take place Dec. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The parade will start on River Road and end on North Street.
Kiwanis’ 5th Annual Santa Fun Run
This community event lets participants dress up as Santa Claus during the 1.25-mile run. The run will take place on Dec. 10 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is located on Government Street and at St. Phillip Street. The price to participate is $20 for adults and $15 for children.
The Nutcracker- A Tale from the Bayou
This event, featuring professional guest artists and local dancers, will take place Dec. 17-18 at the Baton Rouge River Center. There will also be live accompaniment by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. The local twist on the classic ballet will last from 2 to 6 p.m.
