Not even the candidates showed up last night to find out the results of the race for a Student Government Art and Design Senate seat.
Abby Cantrell from the “In Focus” ticket won the seat.
Only Commissioner of Elections Devin Reid and a Daily Reveille reporter went to the reading of election results in Williams Hall — an auditorium that was filled with students for the announcement of the general SG elections last week.
Reid e-mailed the two candidates the election results when he realized they were not coming.
Reid announced that 87 people from the college voted in the election, and Cantrell won with 71 percent of the vote. Colleen Landry from the “Making It Happen” ticket was her opponent.
The election was held one week later than it was supposed to because Reid made a clerical error and thought Cantrell was disqualified. He said he thought Cantrell did not go to the required Senate meeting all Senate candidates must attend.
“It was just a big mix-up,” Cantrell said. “I did everything that was required.”
But Cantrell said she is excited about winning because she is from the “In Focus” ticket, which lost almost all the races in the general election.
Landry said she is “fine” with losing the race.
“Apparently, the best person won,” Landry said. “I’m glad it’s settled now.”
