Sometimes, it strikes at the end of a long night of studying. Sometimes after a long night of drinking at your favorite watering hole. It makes your stomach rumble. It is an insomniac’s dream and a nutritionist’s nightmare.
It’s late-night hunger.
At LSU, where our eating habits are as diverse as our backgrounds, there are numerous options to fulfill that late-night craving for food.
Here’s The Daily Reveille’s look at late-night dining options around campus.
IF YOU LIKE TO SIT:
• Louie’s Cafe, 209 West State St., (225) 346-8221
Located moments from the North Gates of campus, Louie’s is a University tradition almost as old as Mike the Tiger. It’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can always fulfill your late-night cravings here.
The menu is loaded with a variety of options, ranging from breakfast dishes to monster-sized cheeseburgers. But whether you order the “Chops n’ Eggs” or the “Big Cheesy Lou,” Louie’s hashbrowns are always a must.
“Louie’s has good food and fun waitresses,” said Andre Guidry, mass communication freshman.
Guidry said his favorite meal at Louie’s is a concoction called “The Mitchell”
“The Mitchell is an omelet that has bacon, hashbrowns and cheese,” he said.
And if you’re still hungry after all of that, try the bread pudding for dessert.
̢ۢ Pluckers Wing Factory & Grill, 4225 Nicholson Drive, (225) 761-9464
While not as old and as well-established as Louie’s, Pluckers is a great place to fulfill a late-night chicken craving.
Located right between Tigerland and Bogie’s Bar and Grill, it too is a favorite of those coming from a night of drinking and debauchery.
“I like Pluckers because they deliver,” said Charlotte Light, geography junior. “I like the hamburger and the queso.”
Pluckers is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 to 2 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 to 3 a.m.
• Rotolo’s Pizzeria, 1125 Bob Petit Blvd., (225) 761-1999
If you want to eat a pizza – or maybe even a calzone – then Rotolo’s may be the spot for you. Located in the heart of Tigerland, it is open until 3 a.m. every night except Sunday, when it closes at 1 a.m.
FAST N’ CHEAP, PLEASE:
• Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, 3313 Highland Road
A fast-growing chain fast-food restaurant that originated at this location, Raising Cane’s is known as the place to go for chicken fingers complimented by “cane’s sauce.”
It is open until midnight on Sunday through Wednesday and until 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
• McDonald’s, 4215 Nicholson Drive
This well-known establishment started staying open all night last year and is another convenient place for bar patrons to stop at the end of their night.
“McDonald’s is cool because it’s on the way home from the bars, and they let you walk through the drive through,” said finance senior Jamie Scotto.
• Wendy’s, 3322 Lake St.
This hamburger joint is open until 2 a.m. nightly and features a $0.99 menu that is for the money-conscious late-night eater.
̢ۢ Jack In The Box, 3255 Highland Road
Another of the fast-food eateries located just off the North Gates of campus, Jack In The Box, is open 24 hours, and unlike McDonald’s, offers its full menu all of the time.
Business sophomore Daniel Dietz said this was his favorite of the late-night eateries.
“I like the bacon ultimate cheeseburger,” he said. “It’s massive.”
The point is, no matter what your culinary tastes are, you should be able to find what you’re looking for somewhere near the University.
