Police arrest individual on drug charges
LSUPD arrested a man not affiliated with LSU Feb. 28 on four drug charges.
Police charged Ricardo Castillo Jr., 25, 2502 Hilton Head, Missouri City, Texas, with possession of drugs in a drug-free zone, possession of schedule IV drugs, possession of schedule I drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Castillo borrowed his sister’s car with permission the morning of Feb. 28, Lt. Lawrence Rabalais said.
Rabalais said Castillo agreed to return the car by 6 a.m. so his sister could get to work.
However, later the same day when Castillo had not returned the car, his sister learned he planned to visit his girlfriend, who lives in Graham Hall, Rabalais said.
The sister contacted LSUPD and asked police to make contact with Castillo and obtain her car, he said.
When officers located the car, they found his whereabouts in the building through the Graham Hall guest list, Rabalais said.
LSUPD asked Castillo to prove ownership of the car, and as Castillo opened the door, police saw narcotics in the center console, Rabalais said.
When police asked Castillo what the narcotics were, he said “marijuana or pills,” Rabalais said.
After officers searched the vehicle, they found a Ziploc bag containing two marijuana roaches, a pack of rolling papers, a cellophane bag containing eight white, bar-shaped pills that were Xanax and some marijuana, police said.
The sister could not press charges for car theft because she gave Castillo permission to use the car.
LSUPD transported Castillo to the station and booked him into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the drug charges.
The Reveille did not know about this crime until Monday because of the process reports must go through at LSUPD.
