Women’s golf opens spring schedule
The 18th-ranked LSU women’s golf team will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to open its spring season at the 30th-annual SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course on Friday.
The UF Golf Course has been totally made over this year and resembles nothing of the old course, where the Southeastern Conference Championships were held last year.
All-American senior Meredith Duncan will lead the Tigers into the tournament. Duncan is the United States Amateur Champion and is currently the top-ranked amateur player in the country.
In her 18th season as head coach for the Tigers, Karen Bahnsen is hoping the Tigers will continue where they left off in the fall when they finished in third-place at the Lady Paladin event at Furman.
“We are anxious to get going again,” said Bahnsen. “The final tournament was a great way to finish the gall, and now we need to come out aggressive and focused and make good decisions on a golf course that will play much differently than the course these girls have played in the past.”
The Tigers’ spring schedule includes two major events at the school’s home course, the University Club. The annual LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic will be held April 5-7, and the NCAA East Regional will be held in May, where 21 teams come together to compete for eight NCAA qualifying spots.
