The LSU women’s golf team ended its fall season on a down note, finishing 13th in “The Derby” Invitational hosted by Auburn at the University Club in Auburn.
LSU finished with a 319 on Sunday and a 54-hole total of 88-over par 952 (311-322-319).
Tennessee separated itself from the field on the final day, shooting a three-under par score of 285 for a three-day total of seven-over 871. The Volunteers finished seven shots better than Texas at 14-over 878. Arizona was third at 18-over 882.
Violeta Retamoza of Tennessee won the individual tournament title in a playoff over Auburn’s Celeste Troche. The pair both shot five under 67 on the afternoon and finished regulation at five-under par 211.
Sophomore Brooke Shelton led LSU, finishing with a 5-over 77 on Sunday, and posting a 54-hole total of 12-over 228 to tie for 34th place (75-76-77).
Junior Isabel Dornellas shot 79, Devon Day fired an 81 and Rebecca Struthers shot 82 to pace the Lady Tigers. Dornellas couldn’t maintain her success of Friday when she posted a one-under 71. She followed up with an 83 on Saturday and finished tied for 53rd overall.
