Auburn (7-4, 4-3)
Auburn’s road to Atlanta is a little more complicated. First, the Tigers have to beat Alabama this weekend in the Iron Bowl. If that happens, Auburn needs LSU to lose one of its remaining two games. Auburn also needs Arkansas to lose one of its remaining two games.
Auburn only can advance if it has the best conference record or is tied with LSU for the top spot in the West. Auburn cannot advance if tied with Arkansas because the Razorbacks beat Auburn 38-17. Auburn cannot advance if there is a three-team tie for the top spot.
LSU (7-3. 4-2)
For the Tigers it’s very simple: win and you’re in. If LSU wins its last two games, it goes to the SEC Championship to play Georgia, regardless of what happens to Auburn and Arkansas. LSU would finish 6-2 in conference, while the best Auburn and Arkansas can finish is 5-3.
LSU could very well clinch the title this weekend if the planets align right and everything falls into place. LSU must beat Ole Miss, Auburn must lose to Alabama and Arkansas must lose to Mississippi State. This would give LSU five wins in conference while the other two teams only can win four at most.
Should LSU lose to Ole Miss Saturday night, then Auburn must lose to Alabama, and LSU must beat Arkansas to win the SEC West title. Auburn holds a tiebreaker over LSU and if both Auburn and LSU finish 5-3 in conference, LSU would not advance.
Arkansas (7-3, 3-3)
Like LSU, the Razorbacks control their own destiny. If Arkansas wins its next two games, it will go to the SEC championship regardless of what happens in the Iron Bowl. Winning the rest of their games would put the Razorbacks at 5-3 in conference. But that would also guarantee LSU finishing at least 5-3 or lower since the two teams meet on Nov. 29.
If the Razorbacks slip up to Mississippi State this weekend, they would need LSU to lose to Ole Miss, Auburn to lose to Alabama and they would then need to beat LSU to win the West with a 4-4 record.
