Police arrested three individuals Nov. 3 for charges including drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police were dispatched to Kirby-Smith Hall at 11:27 p.m. after receiving a call concerning a strong marijuana odor. Upon entering the room, officers noticed two individuals. After checking the room, police found hashish and Valium.
A third individual entered the room and upon seeing the police he stopped abruptly, police said.
The officers checked the individual’s bag and found more Valium.
Police arrested Daniel Barbara of 801 Jewel St., New Orleans; Brian McSwain of 5721 Vicksburg St., New Orleans; and Thomas Morris of 3513 Janice Dr., Ruston, La.
Police charged Barbara on two counts of distribution of schedule IV drugs (Valium and Xanax), two counts of possession of schedule IV drugs and violation of a drug-free zone.
McSwain was charged with possession of a schedule I drug (hashish), possession of a schedule IV drug (valium) and violation of a drug-free zone.
Morris initially was arrested, but later police released him and issued a misdemeanor summons for violations of simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Capt. Mark Shaw of LSUPD said Morris was not charged with violation of a drug-free zone because the law only applies to felony charges; therefore, Morris’ simple possession did not apply.
Barbara and McSwain were booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
