Reveille wrong to neglect Moore story
One can appreciate the article written highlighting the poignant and tragic events affecting the LSU community since the beginning of this year. However, there is a major fact missing from this timeline, and that is Christine Louise Moore, a 23-year-old graduate and first-year graduate student in the School of Social Work. On May 24, she was declared missing, and on June 15, almost an entire month later, she was found dismembered and decomposed.
We, her sorority sisters of the Iota Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., find it appalling you mention all of the unfortunate other women’s deaths and not Christine’s. Her body never was recovered, and only the skeletal remains of a beautiful, bright young woman with a loving heart and a promising future have been buried. She worked tirelessly in all of her endeavors as an LSU student and is not forgotten.
We find the oversight offensive and degrading to her memory. You have the information of the other women, one of whom had no affiliation with LSU at all. However, we understand the point was to highlight major citywide events, and we do not in any way expect you to exclude anyone because they are not directly related to LSU.
But, Christine was an LSU student and a vital part of the community whose optimism and giving spirit is missed, and we are sick, tired and disgusted by the lack of concern that has been shown to Christine and her family. To date, there still are media coverage and news spotlights of the tragic deaths of the other three women, and this is not the first time an article has been written in relation to the brutal murders of these women with the exclusion of Christine. Are you going to do a write-up of the Memorial Scholarships that are being established in Christine’s name by her family, the School of Social Work and Delta Sigma Theta? There are things going on right under your nose, and you very obviously have overlooked her unfairly, yet again.
