With the release of their new album coming up Tuesday, “How to Start a Fire,” the members of Further Seems Forever are gearing up for a rocking show tonight at the Spanish Moon.
Last time they were here, the members of Further Seems Forever — Jason Gleason on vocals, Derick Cordoba on guitar, Josh Colbert on guitar, Chad Neptune on bass and Steve Kleisath on drums — rocked out for a packed crowd at the Spanish Moon. As they prepare for the audience feedback on their new album, new singer Jason is put to the test.
As Dashboard Confessional takes off, Further Seems Forever is adjusting to the loss of former singer/songwriter for the band Chris Carrabba and former guitar player for the band Nick Dominguez. Adding Jason and Derick to the roster has been a blessing and a downfall of the band.
Further Seems Forever’s last album, “The Moon is Down,” is a gut-wrenching emotion stirring portrayal of what everyone feels when in love and broken-hearted. Chris Carrabba’s lyrics give chills to almost everyone who listens to them.
Jason, however, has been able to hold his own singing and performing Carrabba’s lyrics. He performs them with the same powerful chill-inducing screams for which Carrabba is known.
“I was extremely impressed when I saw them here last semester,” said Matthew Malcolm, a psychology junior. “I didn’t know what to expect from the new singer, but when I heard him sing the first note, I knew it was going to be an incredible show. And I can’t wait to see them again tonight.”
The new album, however, doesn’t contain the same power as the first. With softer, slower melodies the chills come less frequently than before. But nonetheless, the songs and lyrics hook the audience as they did with Carrabba.
“It’s a hard follow-up from their first album, but with new members in the band, people can see why it’d be different,” said T.J. Bonnette, a mass communication junior.
Signed to Tooth & Nail Records, the band is touring in promotion of its new album. And with the same catchy melodies which made Further Seems Forever popular in the indie music scene, this album is sure to give the band as much fame as the first album, if not more.
Tonight the members of Further Seems Forever hit the stage at the Spanish Moon with Elliot, The Early November and Salem. The show starts at 10 p.m. and costs $8.
