BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Seimone Augustus, a freshman on LSU’s fifth-ranked Tigers basketball team, earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors for her performance against Georgia in Sunday’s victory.
Augustus, a native of Baton Rouge, led the Lady Tigers to a 68-64 over No. 18 Georgia with a game-high 24 points, including 18 in the second half, and a career-high 19 rebounds with 10 offensive boards. Her 19 rebounds were the most by an LSU player since Cornelia Gayden grabbed 19 against Lamar on Feb. 23, 1994.
The 6-1 forward, also hit all eight of her free throw in the game and has connected on all 27 of her shots from the free throw line in conference play.
Augustus is the first freshman in LSU history to earn the weekly honor from the SEC and the first player overall since Aiysha Smith received the award in February of last season.
LSU hits the road to face South Carolina in Columbia on Thursday at 6 p.m. CST.
