LSU Sports Information has issued a warning to fans about purchasing e-tickets to the LSU-Ole Miss football game.
Michael Bonnette, LSU sports information director, said the extremely high demand for tickets to the game in Oxford, Miss., has increased the risk that individuals may attempt to sell fraudulent or unauthorized e-tickets.
Sans Russell, assistant athletic director for ticket operations at Ole Miss, said Ole Miss sells many of its tickets to home football games over the Internet. Buyers can print the tickets on plain paper.
Russell said each e-ticket has a unique barcode, which is scanned when patrons enter the game. The barcode on the paper tickets only allows one entry per ticket, so patrons with a duplicated e-ticket will not be permitted to enter the game.
“We are not aware of any problems yet,” Bonnette said. “This is just a warning.”
Bonnette said the Athletics Department is just making people aware of the possibility of a problem. He said ticket buyers should be on the lookout for fraudulent tickets.
Russell said Ole Miss has not had many problems at all with e-ticket duplication since moving to the new system two years ago.
