Despite being idle this weekend, the LSU football team moved to No. 3 in both the ESPN/USA Today and Associated Press polls – the Tigers highest ranking since 1961.
The Tigers (8-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) were propelled to third in the country after then-No. 3 Florida State lost 26-10 at Clemson on Saturday night.
This marks the ninth consecutive week LSU has remained in the ESPN/USA Today Top 10 and its eighth in the AP.
The Tigers eighth consecutive week in the AP Top 10 marks their longest stint since the 1986 and 1987 seasons when the Tigers were in the Top 10 for 15 consecutive weeks. The Tigers ESPN/USA Today ranking is the highest since the poll originated in 1982.
Oklahoma and Southern California remained ahead of LSU in both polls at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The Sooners (10-0, 6-0 Big XII Conference) routed Texas A&M 77-0 on Saturday. OU’s remaining schedule includes games against Baylor, at Texas Tech and a probable Big XII Championship game appearance.
USC (8-1, 4-1 PAC-10) was idle this weekend. The Trojans complete their slate with games at Arizona, UCLA and Oregon State.
The Bowl Championship Series rankings will be released today at 5 p.m.
