With Halloween tomorrow, there are tons of scary monsters to look out for, ranging from the little boy dressed up as a ghost, to the guy down the street who wants to chase people with his fake chainsaw.
But it is clear some of the best Halloween monsters come straight out of the movies.
Some students have their own opinion about who their favorite movie monsters are.
Gaylan Williams, a landscape architecture junior said he does not watch horror movies often. But he does enjoy certain monsters.
“I like monsters that look cool, like the monster from ‘The Relic,'” Williams said.
Williams also said he liked the creature in “Jeepers Creepers.”
Laurean Buchanan, a political science senior said his favorite movie monster is Michael Myers.
“He’s a lot like Jason because he doesn’t run after his victims, and you can’t kill him no matter what you do … he just keeps coming back,” Buchanan said.
In honor of spook day, Revelry compiled a list of ten great movie monsters. Each and every one has something endearing about them, something almost no one can resist.
Jason of “Friday the 13th” is such a bad guy, with his creepy mask and snarly looks. The scariest thing about Jason is that his face is not visible. He’s covered up from head to toe.
Maybe he is just a nerd in disguise, but in any case, Jason tops the list of favorites because of his mystery and of course, his ability to take on the number two favorite movie monster, Freddy.
There is no doubt why Freddy Krueger of “Nightmare on Elm Street,” is one of the top ten favorite movie monsters. A guy with blades for fingernails is not someone to get close to, even if he is your favorite monster.
Anyone who is not afraid of the Candyman of “The Candyman,” is not afraid of much. This guy is a real freak. All one must to do to beckon him is say his name five times in front of a mirror. He will then come and slash them to death.
Of course the story is just a legend, but surely Candyman did not make it on this list for nothing.
Perhaps the most annoying doll on the planet, Chucky of “Child’s Play” is next on the list of favorite movie monsters. Chucky’s most frightening quality is the fact that he’s so cheesy. This little guy just never dies.
After being gunned down in a toy store in “Child’s Play,” he mutters an ancient incantation to transfer his soul to another doll in the area. Unfortunately it worked, and Chucky returned to the big screen along with a female version of himself in “Bride of Chucky.”
For almost anyone who has seen Stephen King’s “IT,” clowns are no longer allowed at birthday parties. There is a reason It made it to the list. It is horrifying. Not only does this clown-monster kill people, but he also meddles with their minds. He makes people hallucinate their worst nightmares. Then It never actually dies.
Next up in the top ten: the Cryptkeeper. Although the Cryptkeeper is not really a movie monster, there is no way he/she/it could be left off the list. The Cryptkeeper is creepy because, not only is it a talking rack of bones, but it also has a startling laugh, one that would make anyone want to run away screaming.
Dracula and Frankenstein should be considered the founders of the day we now celebrate as Halloween. Halloween just isn’t the same without them.
Now that there are monsters like It and Freddy, Dracula and Frankenstein just are not as threatening as they used to be, but since they are two of the very first movie monsters, scaring people in “Nosferatu” and “Frankenstein,” they simply must be included in the Halloween spirit.
The headless horseman has been a scary element in the month of October for many years. Legend has it, he rides the countryside at night, lopping off and stealing the heads of anyone who gets in his way.
Perhaps corn maze goers should keep an eye out.
And last but certainly not least, the “Halloween” man himself, Michael Myers. This guy is really scary.
The only thing unrealistic about Michael Myers is that he keeps coming back again and again.
The “Halloween” collection seems to be neverending, especially now that there is another movie on the way.
