The movie that launched the genre of gross-out humor flicks is now on a special edition DVD. “Animal House: Double Secret Probation Edition” is a must see for all college students. This movie spawned modern imitations “Van Wilder” and “Sorority Boys” but is funny and much more memorable.
The 1978 film is a spoof of 1960s college life and focuses on the Delta fraternity. The late John Belushi stole the show as the lovable loser Bluto and catapulted toga parties onto the national scene. The plot is simple: a fraternity wreaks havoc on the campus, gets expelled and hilarity ensues.
This newest DVD edition features Dolby sound and both wide screen and full screen options. The DVD extras include a “Where Are They Now” character spoof, animated anecdotes and a reunion of the cast members.
The movie that gave us such quotes as “The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me” and presents a hilariously tragic incident with a horse deserves to be in everyone’s collection.
It’s raunchy, disgusting and sophomoric, but despite that (or because of it) we love it anyway. “Animal House” is one of those rare movies that transcends generations and that college students and their parents can watch and enjoy.
