Coach Nick Saban and the LSU football team have received eight commitments for the Tigers’ 2004 recruiting class that will sign national letters of intent in February of 2004.
Although the commitments are not binding until the letters are signed next year, LSU looks to be strong along the defensive line, with three of the commitments lining up there.
Glenn Dorsey, a 6-foot-3, 280 pound defensive tackle from East Ascension High School in Gonzales, got the recruiting process out of the way early and committed to LSU.
East Ascension coach Bill Beasley raves about Dorsey’s motor and his first and second steps.
Rivals.com, a national recruiting service, ranks Dorsey the fifth best defensive tackle in the country.
The other defensive tackle commitment is a junior college product out of Mississippi Delta Community College.
Claude Wroten, who is 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, played his high school football at Bastrop and earned Mississippi Junior College All-State honors last year.
The Tigers also received a commitment from Tyson Jackson, a defensive end prospect from West St. John High School. Jackson is 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, and has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.8 seconds.
Jackson’s teammate, Quinn Johnson, also made his verbal pledge to the Tigers.
Johnson is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker who runs a 4.7 40-yard dash.
LSU’s last defensive commitment is defensive back Curtis Taylor, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound safety from Franklinton High School.
Taylor was a Class 9-3A All-Distirct selection as a junior.
On offense, local product Max Holmes, a 6-foot-4 center from Parkview Baptist High School, pledged his commitment to the Tigers.
He is rated as the No. 4 center in the country by Rivals.com.
Mit Cole, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end from Picayune, Miss., joins Cole as the only two offensive line prospect. LSU beat Ole Miss in the race for Cole.
Speedster Jerald Watson of Central Catholic in Morgan City is the final commitment of 2004 so far.
Watson is 6 feet, 180 pounds, and plays running back in high school. He may run track in college.
