You know, I don’t want to be that guy who always picks on California, but they make it so easy. California is like the Monica Lewenski of states-it’s really just pathetic.
Last Friday Gov. Gray Davis signed into law a piece of legislation that essentially makes it legal for illegal aliens to obtain a California driver’s license.
HUH?
I think I missed something.
I do understand that Davis is under a lot of pressure these days, but this is just a lousy attempt at a political “battle of the bulge”.
So this new law states that applicants for a California driver’s license no longer must provide proof of citizenship or a social security number.
Soon, all you’ll need to be a legal driver in the state of California is a taxpayer’s identification number, which is easier to get than the clap, and one additional form of ID including a Matricula Consular Card.
The Matricala is a form of ID given by the Mexican government to all Mexican nationalist, and which is also easier to get than the clap.
The Card is considered by the Department of Homeland Security to be insecure and unreliable, but what do they know.
The thing that really trips me up here is that Davis vetoed the same proposal, AB60, last year because it had no provision providing criminal background checks, and because of the obvious danger in allowing illegal aliens access to legal U.S. identification in the wake of today’s terror threat.
But now Davis is fighting for votes, so national security can just piss off!
After all, the bill had to pass both the House and Senate to even find it’s way to the Gov’s desk.
What possible good can come from this bill?
But let me be fair to California, a lot of other states out there have been known for their low requirements for getting a driver’s license.
Most of the 19 9-11 highjackers had legit driver’s licenses from Virginia, New Jersey, and Florida (a round of applause for these states, please).
Until recently New Jersey had paper licenses with no picture ID.
No wonder Tony Soprano makes his home in the Garden State.
However, all of these states, including others with similar problems, have made necessary changes to their systems, and all is now well.
I guess until their governor is recalled, and all logical hell breaks loose. (I have heard rumors that Louisiana might be among the ranks of states with easily accessible driver’s licenses, but I cannot find any hard evidence-so please contact me if you have any info.)
Anywho, I think it is great that Davis is trying to get the Mexican-American vote out, providing they are American, but surely there must be a better way.
Still, there has to be more of a reason for this bill, but the only thing I could find was an advocate who said, “the roads will be safer, because they [illegal aliens] will have to take a driving test.”
Excuse the pun, but when did defensive driving take a back seat to national security!
Also, in the wake of California’s huge deficit problem, the selling of more drivers’ licenses might help.
If that were the case, I would have lowered the driving age to eight, before I signed this bill.
It is true that without the hard working aliens, America’s economy would suffer greatly, but I don’t care if the people who cross the Rio every fall for the harvest drive in America legally or not.
I care about terrorist who could pass as Mexican with a Matricula card and a taxpayers ID number getting their grubby little hands on a U.S. driver’s license.
Think about all the things you can do, or gain entry to with just a valid driver’s license.
It’s a scary thought, and we can all thank Calif. Gov. Gray Davis the next time we see Osama driving down the 101 in an 87 Ford Econoline.
