LSU junior right-hander Brian Wilson has signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants, and he will begin his professional career next month in the Arizona Instructional League.
Wilson was the Giants’ 24th-round selection in the 2003 Major League Draft.
Wilson, a native of Londonderry, N.H., pitched three seasons at LSU, posting an 18-10 career record with a 3.95 ERA, 128 strikeouts and five saves in 184.1 innings. He made 51 appearances, including 22 starts.
His best season came in 2002, when he recorded a 10-5 mark and a 3.54 ERA as the Tigers’ No. 2 starter.
Wilson’s 2003 season was interrupted by an elbow injury, and he underwent Tommy John surgery in April to repair a torn ulna collateral ligament in his right arm.
His final LSU appearance came on March 28 in Tuscaloosa, when he worked 7.2 innings in a 4-2 loss to Alabama.
Wilson is the fourth pitcher from the Tigers’ 2003 SEC championship club to sign a professional contract. The others are right-handers Billy Sadler (Giants), Bo Pettit (Twins) and Jake Tompkins (Phillies).
