The LSU softball team is losing a key member for the 2003-2004 season.
Tessa Lynam, a pitcher and designated hitter, is transferring to another school for the fall. Associate Sports Information Director Melissa Reynaud confirmed Lynam has left the team and has been released from her scholarship.
Lynam, an Alpharetta, Ga., native, completed her sophomore season at LSU with a 16-3 record as a pitcher and a 2.24 ERA in 153 innings. As a designated hitter she hit .284 with nine homeruns, 12 doubles and 38 RBIs.
The Lady Tigers finished 50-18 (20-9 in the Southeastern Conference) on the season and were ranked No. 12 in the country.
Lynam was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week April 13 through 19 after she posted a 2-0 record and earned a 0.00 ERA for the week, not allowing a run in 14 innings pitched.
As a freshman in 2002, she was named to the NCAA Region 3 All-Tournament Team, ranked No. 6 in the Southeastern Conference in homeruns and knocked in the game-winning run against Northwestern State in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Lynam said she planned to visit California State, Fullerton on Wednesday but has not decided on a school yet.
LSU student coach and former pitching ace Britni Sneed also will be leaving LSU for a job as an assistant pitching coach for Baylor University. Last season she worked with the LSU pitching staff.
As a pitcher, Sneed broke the LSU and SEC records for single-season strikeouts in 2002 and ranked fourth on the NCAA record strikeouts list.
