Two University Greek organizations may be getting new homes on campus for the fall semester if financial issues can be resolved.
Jennifer Lyons, Sigma Alpha advisor, said the agricultural sorority is attempting to purchase the Pi Kappa Alpha house on Fraternity Row. However, financial problems are holding up the process. “It’s a possibility, but it’s not definite,” Lyons said. “It’s financing on our part. We’re having a hard time getting personal backing from banks.”
If Sigma Alpha can obtain the funds to purchase the Pi Kappa Alpha house, then Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity will move into the Delta Chi house. Greek Affairs Director Victor Felts said if Sigma Alpha purchases the house, it would mark one of the few times a sorority would be placed on Fraternity Row. However, he said he does not foresee any issues about the sorority’s possible location.
“I don’t think it would create any problems,” he said.
Chris Adams, House Corporation president for Pi Kappa Alpha, said the fraternity has signed an agreement to purchase the Delta Chi house while Sigma Alpha is in the process of getting a purchase agreement.
Felts said his department was not yet involved in the process and the University would not directly be involved until the transactions were final.
“The University becomes involved when they [the Greek organizations] have to come into agreement with the University,” Felts said.
This includes determining what type of purpose the houses will serve and what type of behavior is allowed.
Lyons said if Sigma Alpha is able to purchase the Pi Kappa Alpha house, it would mark the first time any Sigma Alpha chapter in the nation buys a house.
