Elections for Black Student Union officers will be held today in the African American Cultural Center from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
According to current BSU Parliamentarian Ralph Johnson, all full-time students are able to vote in today’s election.
“They must remember to bring a valid picture ID to the AACC when they come to vote,” Johnson said.
The two presidential candidates students can choose between are Charles Daniel and Jennifer Grace.
There is only one candidate for each of the other offices. Kristy Davis is running for vice president, Iris Davis is running for secretary and Maderia Hatcher is running for treasurer.
“The election results will be announced at 6 p.m. at the African American Cultural Center,” Johnson said. “It’s important that students vote in this election because the students who are elected are your voice when it comes to representing the black student populace on campus.”
Lance Wise, a theater junior, said it is important that students take the time to make their votes count.
Cherishe Thomas, an elementary education freshman, said that students should not forget about BSU elections.
“Since student government elections are occurring around the same time, students may forget to vote in BSU elections,” she said. “Both elections are important and impact the campus.”
Johnson said the BSU basically is the “umbrella” over the 23 black student organizations on campus.
