This season is coming to an end, and our teams are fighting until it comes. Each duo performed two dances, both being a style of dance they haven’t been given this season. These performances were the ticket to secure spots in the final episode of the season.
Fans’ votes and judges’ scores put together saved every couple from elimination, sending them all into the finals.
Here’s your recap of each duo’s score, as well as the top costumes from the night.
Don’t miss the final episode of the season tonight, where all five pairs will show their best freestyle dance for a chance to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy!
Scores
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong (TOTAL SCORE 58)
After an episode of perfect scores, Kinney and Armstrong came out swinging for their salsa and foxtrot, with only the latter making an impression on the judges. Their salsa didn’t have enough of the staple moves, but the emotion and intensity in their second dance tied them up for the highest score of the night.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson (TOTAL SCORE 58)
A perfect score for this couple’s foxtrot this week sent them to the top of the leaderboard. Graziadei is always putting his best foot forward and holding his head high. Thanks to Johnson’s stellar choreography, they are able to show range for his talent. I can’t wait to see their freestyle in the finale where there will be no guidelines to keep them down.
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten (TOTAL SCORE 57)
Maher and Bersten are taking America by storm. After some hard styles this season, Maher really found stride in her Viennese Waltz and paso doble. Her confidence has grown throughout the competition, and there is no one to thank but her partner. Bersten visibly has a soft spot for her and only wants her to succeed. They are having fun while improving every week and proving to be real contenders for the trophy.
Danny Amendola and Witney Carson (TOTAL SCORE 54)
Regardless of his determination for the craft, Amendola’s all-around skill is impressive, but is overshadowed by his lack of emotion. This was okay in the beginning of the season, but he has since become in touch with his emotions and should show it. This duo’s go-to move is a lift, which shows well, but sometimes is a little repetitive from other dances despite being different styles.
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold (TOTAL SCORE 53)
This week was not Nedoroscik’s best by far. Two dances proved to be a little hard to handle with his early inconsistent dancing showing through. In his tango, however, he gave his professionalism the spotlight and went on with the show, despite a little mishap in the beginning. Arnold’s choreography is getting a little bit stagnant despite getting into the finals.
Top Costumes
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson
This dark teal matching outfit was stunning. A foxtrot does this couple some good, but the velvet suit was a great addition. I felt transported to the scene they created with the sets and their very vintage-feeling attitude. This couple always brings out the best for their performances.
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten
A paso doble is what Maher was born to do. The fierceness of this dance was only enhanced by the red lace dress she wore. My favorite part of a costume for this style dance is the skirt on the back that is acting as half of a skirt. I wish this was discovered sooner because her dance will go down as one of the best this season.
