The No. 1 Auburn Tigers charged head-first into the PMAC and pulled out a grueling 87-74 victory over LSU on Wednesday night.
After the game, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl made it a point to give his opponent their flowers.
“LSU started off with great effort and energy,” Pearl said. “They made some big plays defensively. You could see their athleticism.”
Once the ball was tipped off, the purple and gold played like they were shot out of a cannon. LSU ripped off a 6-0 run to start the game before Auburn began to weather the storm.
“They were way quicker and faster and more athletic to the ball in the first half, and at least at the start, hit us right in the mouth,” Pearl said. “They were ready to play.”
Both teams must be ready to play again come Saturday. Auburn travels to Oxford, MS, to play No. 23 Ole Miss, while LSU hosts Texas.
