Auburn faced off against LSU in the PMAC Wednesday night with hopes to remain in that national No. 1 rank, and they did just that. Defeating the LSU Tigers 87-74 in front of a packed home crowd. Auburn’s Johni Broome carried the majority of the weight for Auburn putting up 26 points and 16 rebounds.
LSU came out strong starting with a 6-0 run and was up 14-9. Soon after, Auburn woke up and poured in a 17-2 run of their own leaving them up 41-29 going into the half. In the second half, LSU was able to cut the lead to 5 with two big 3-pointers from Jordan Sears. Unfortunately, it was not enough for LSU as Auburn was able to extend the lead back to 13 points.
Cam Carter led the LSU Tigers in scoring with 24 points and six rebounds. Dji Bailey contribute 13 points along with Jordan Sears’ 11. Auburn’s victory keeps them undefeated in SEC play and 19-1 overall.
For LSU this loss will put them at `1-6 in SEC play and 12-8 overall. The Tigers of LSU will host the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, February 1 at 5 p.m. in the PMAC.
