The No. 3 ranked LSU Gymnastics team defeated No. 9 Missouri in the PMAC 198.000-197.175 Friday. The win comes one week after the team loss on the road to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
“We came in on Monday with a completely different mindset,” Konnor McClain said. “We completely rearranged our perspective and realized we were better than this.”
The team secured the win with the help of Freshman Kailin Chio’s first all-around title of her collegiate career.
“My team was doing their absolute best gymnastics tonight,” Chio said. “I was just feeding off their energy, doing exactly what I’ve been working on in the gym and putting my head down.”
Meanwhile, Senior KJ Johnson returned to the vault after suffering an ankle injury vs. Oklahoma. Johnson scored a season high of 9.90 in her return.
“It was a blast to be back out there again,” Johnson said. “I’ve been missing competing for my team, but I’ve just been everyone’s biggest cheerleader.”
“I love being a part of a team whether I am competing or not,” Johnson said.
The Tigers move to 5-2 on the season with the win.
“This team, we love each other so much,” Chio said. “We have each others’ back day in and day out.”
The Tigers will take on Alabama Friday at 8 p.m. in Tuscaloosa where they look to win their first away meet of the season.
