While LSU’s Tiger Girls and Golden Girls perform on the sidelines and big stages, they aren’t the only way for students to dance on campus. The LSU Dance Ambassadors Club is providing a space for dancers of all levels to keep performing—no auditions required.
Every Monday night, students gather in a dance studio, not for a competition or a grade, but simply for the love of dancing. The club welcomes anyone, regardless of experience.
“Especially when you come to a place like Dance Ambassadors, we wipe away any of those stigmas by just making it a fun environment where people don’t have to worry about their skill level,” said Jackie Caldwell, the club’s social chair. “It’s honestly just an excuse for us to hang out, have a good time and bring some joy into our lives while dancing.”
Dance Ambassadors offers weekly drop-in classes in a variety of styles, including hip-hop and contemporary. Members also have the opportunity to perform in a semesterly showcase.
“We make the club really accessible by having drop-in classes every Monday, and every so often we have Thursday bonus classes because we know some people’s schedules don’t allow for Mondays every week,” said Ava Heath, the club’s vice president. “You can pay by class, or we have a membership where you pay $20 for the entire semester, and you get a T-shirt at the end.”
For many students, Dance Ambassadors is more than just a club—it’s a way to continue doing what they love in college.
“Come here, come hang out with us,” said Cecilia Johnson, the club’s president. “It’s a great community. I’ve found some really incredible people here, and just spending time with them every week makes it worth it.”
