LSU made its 2025 season debut with a three-game winning streak last weekend at the Beach Burg Invitational in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Competing over, the Tigers faced off against Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State on Friday, followed by a string of wins against North Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Spring Hill on Saturday.
Friday was a shaky day for LSU as it fell 2-3 to the Seminoles despite its 3-2 win against the Eagles.
“Proud of how we responded to some really challenging conditions this morning,” Tigers head coach Russell Brock said. “The first match of the season is always a little tough, but the whole goal is to win that first one, and we earned that first win.”
In earning its first win of the season, LSU’s freshmen had a great start to their collegiate career, with Camryn Chatellier and Elle Evers bringing home their first wins on Friday.
They were joined by sophomore Tatum Finlason and junior native Gracey Campbell, who competed in both matches and secured individual wins.
While Campbell and Evers tried to give the Tigers a solid start with a 22-20 and 21-10 win across two sets on Friday, it dropped the ball as it returned for its third set against Florida State.
But that didn’t discourage Brock, as he pushed his team to recover in time for Saturday.
“Overall, with six players getting their first real opportunity in the lineup for our program, we had a good day,” said Brock. “One that we can and must build on for tomorrow.”
After a 1-1 day, LSU returned to the sand on Saturday to compete in three more matches.
Without missing a beat, the Tigers wiped out North Alabama in a 5-0 game, with Campbell and Evers returning to Court 5 with a clean win across two sets.
As they continued to tackle Southern Mississippi, the same pair brought home another straight win, helping lead their team to defeat the Golden Eagles, 4-1.
On Saturday, Campbell and Evers once again carried two sets, 21-12 and 21-14, against Spring Hill.
Fifth-year senior Emily Meyer and Chandelier capped off the fourth point for LSU in a three-set win, 21-11, 15-21 and 15-10 on Court 3.
This final score awarded the pair an undefeated record for the weekend, proving the freshman and fifth-year to be a perfect match for the season.
The Tigers won all three games on Saturday, returning from its single loss on Friday.
“I know we made big improvements as we went through the weekend, and there is no doubt we will have a great week of training heading into our first home event of the season,” said Brock.
LSU is set to compete on their home sand in the Tiger Beach Challenge this weekend, where North Alabama will look to avenge their recent loss to the purple and gold.
